The National museum stores many Angkorian relics that have been removed from Angkor Wat before the thieves had a chance to steal them, guided tours are available and worth the effort if you want to make the most of your time at the museum.  The museum, built in a pseudo-Khmer style, is built around a courtyard. It was built by the French in 1917 .

Do it before or after your trip to Angkor but do do it.

Afterwards drop by Rory's Irish Pub which is just west of where this photo was taken. As you leave the museum gates walk towards the river and it's about 50m on your left. Rory's Irish Pub
