Travel to CambodiaYou can fly direct to Siam Reap and Phnom Penh from many destinations - check with your travel agent to find the easiset route. The departure taxes for airflights are steep compared to nearby countries. USD 25 $ per outgoing international passenger for flights from Phnom Penh Phnom Penh Airport - Siam Reap Airport Getting from Phnom Penh airport to DV8. Vantha Taxi operates a reliable service from the airport and around town. They have a website if you wish to book a cab from the airport.
A tip from Gordon from The Tales of Asia - "I do not recommend using the Poipet / Aranyaprathet border crossing much beyond 5:00 pm as I do not consider Poipet a safe place to be after dark and onward transportation could be a problem at that hour."
Overland Border CrossingsScams - Most overland border crossings are subject to several scams. Check the Tales of Asia website for more details. The only thing you need to pay for is your visa - Coming from Thailand they will charge you 1000 Baht. You don't need to exchange money at the border. Thailand - CambodiaBangkok -
Siem Reap (Poipet crossing)
Lao - CambodiaLaos (down the Mekong to Stung Treng and vice versa)
Vietnam - Cambodia Moc Bai/Bavet
Avoid the Khao San Road travel agents that will try to sell you a cheap ticket as it's basically just a scam, travel isn't hard. The only problem with overland travel is the border crossing guards will rip you off for a few dollars with exchange rate scams. Don't exchange money at the border as you can use dollars quite freely and even Baht in the border towns. |
